The DVSA has introduced the biggest shake‑up to the driving test booking system in years, with new rules rolled out between March and June 2026. These changes affect every learner driver, and they also have major implications for approved driving instructors (ADIs) and anyone thinking about becoming one.

As of May 12, 2026, the way driving tests can be swapped is transforming. Historically, driving instructors have been able to, upon the agreement of both learners, swap tests over via the DVSA.

A few days before the summer holidays began, I got the email I had been anticipating for so many months: a date for my Part 3 test had finally been allocated for me - September 9, 2025!
