What are the Changes to the Driving Test?
Until now, each candidate was usually stopped on 4 occasions throughout the test. This will now be reduced to 3.
On average, 1 in 3 driving tests included the emergency stop. This will now be reduced to 1 in 7.
Currently, the independent drive part of the test lasts about 20 minutes. This has now been made much more flexible. It may run for the duration of the test, including following a sat-nav, road signs, or both.
What Does This Mean for Candidates?
The idea behind the changes is to allow for a more fluid test. This reflects 'real-world' driving more accurately. With this in mind, it won't make a great deal of difference to the candidates.
For anyone who has taken a driving test in the past, it might feel like you're driving for longer periods. This is due to the reduction in verbal communication from the examiner and the fewer stops. However, the actual impact on candidates is minimal.
Preparing for Your Driving Test
